The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond
Explore the stories, scenery and spirit of the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond on this one-day tour.
Tour Description
"O ye'll tak' the high road, and I'll tak' the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye, But me and my true love will never meet again, On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond." What can we say about Scotland’s most beautiful loch? Immortalised in this beloved song, the loch and the landscape around it ar woven with romance, history and deep emotion. Loch Lomond is also the largest body of fresh water on the British mainland by surface area. There may be no monster lurking in its depths, but the sweeping views, wooded islands and dramatic mountain backdrop make it a breathtaking sight to behold. Typical itinerary: AM: - 09:00 - Pick up at your chosen location. (Timing based on an Edinburgh departure). - Drive west, passing by the Kelpies and Stirling Castle as the Highlands begin to rise on the horizon. - Arrive in the charming conservation village of Luss, long known to Scots as the filming location of the much‑loved soap opera 'Take the High Road'. Explore the historic church, its tragic story, and the amazing Viking grave. - Take a boat from Luss to Balmaha and experience Loch Lomond at it’s best as you sail across to the quaint hamlet of Balmaha on the eastern shore. PM: - Enjoy lunch in the waterfront setting of Balmaha. - Explore Milarrochy Bay and the Cashel Forest trails - a perfect area for gentle walks, photography and sightseeing. - 16:00 Return home via a stunning viewpoint overlooking Stirling Castle and the Wallace's Monument. (Please note this is based on an Edinburgh return). Why not turn your day tour into a longer adventure?
