The Reivers Trail
Reiver country: wild lands, untold stories.
Tour Description
The Scottish Borders and Northern England were once the domain of the legendary Border Reivers - families who lived by courage, cunning, and survival between the 14th and 17th centuries. They knew no border, no nationality, only loyalty to kin. Did you know the first man on the moon carried Reiver blood? If your name is Armstrong, Johnston, Kerr, Graham, Scott, Nixon, or Robson, then you are part of this remarkable story. Like the famous Highland clans, the Reivers were both admired and feared. Kings, Queens, and Governments struggled to contain them. Their raids disrupted trade, their way of life defied authority - until their downfall scattered Reiver families across the world, carrying their legacy far beyond these hills. Come join us on a journey of discovery through the homeland of these incredible people. A land of castles and abbeys, rolling hills and hidden valleys, where history whispers at every turn. Discover how these fierce people shaped the world - and perhaps uncover a piece of your own past along the way. Typical Itinerary: AM: - 08.30 – pick up at your chosen location (based on a pickup in Edinburgh. However we can pick up at your desired location.) – Explore your first Reiver stronghold - a ruined tower where daring raids were planned. – Visit a Borders abbey, steeped in legend and scarred by centuries of conflict. PM: – Scenic drive through the borderland hills, with stories of the Reiver families who once ruled them. – Final stop at a castle or heritage site. - 18:00 - Drop off at your chosen location. (Timing based on an Edinburgh return.) Why not combine your day tour into a longer adventure? Stay overnight in one of the region's fantastic hotels and pair this experience with another of our Scottish Borders tours.
