The Kingdom of Fife

Once the playground of Scottish royalty, rich in ancient stories, and proudly known as the home of golf, this region blends coastal charm, medieval grandeur and a remarkable legacy of education and faith.

St Andrews is at the heart of it all. Beyond the world‑famous Old Course, the town offers six additional golf courses, the third‑oldest university in the English‑speaking world, and a profound connection to Scotland’s early Christian heritage.

The ruins of St Andrews Cathedral and the dramatic remains of the Bishop’s and Cardinal’s Castle stand as powerful reminders of the town’s spiritual and political importance.

Elsewhere in Fife, the treasures continue. Falkland Palace - built in the 1500s to expand Scotland’s royal residences - is an absolute gem, surrounded by the beautifully preserved medieval village of Falkland itself. The palace is also home to one of the world’s oldest real tennis courts, still in use today, offering a rare glimpse into the sporting passions of Scotland’s Renaissance kings and queens.

Dunfermline adds yet another layer of depth. Once the ancient capital of Scotland, it is the birthplace of several Kings and the burial place of even more. Its significance to the nation runs so deep that it was granted city status by Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of its historic importance.

From royal palaces and sacred ruins to coastal towns, golf legends and centuries of scholarship, the Kingdom of Fife offers a rich tapestry of stories waiting to be explored.
